Do I have to register to get the service?


No. Registration is not mandatory. You can still access the service and settle bills without registration. But registration is advisable for recurring payments. It also helps you to be considered for customer loyalty programs in the future. Registration is simple; you are only required to enter your full name and a valid email address. But you can further personalize your profile by adding relevant personal details.

Can I ask for a refund?



Refund is possible in accordance with the international regulations for payment card associations such as Visa or MasterCard.. . Hence, you need to communicate with your issuer bank and write a refund request or chargeback. The refund shall be made if the acquiring bank verifies that the request is genuine.

Is the payment secure?


Yes, you can surely rely on our payment security as we use the most trusted payment gateway owned by MasterCard.

What Payee information should I have to make a payment?


You need to have the beneficiary UID (Unique Identity) - a unique alphanumeric code assigned to every bill payer. Customer receipts contain UIDs placed at the top right edge.

Can I pay in cash?


Yes, but you need to visit our agents on the ground.

Does Mela have an application?



Currently the service is only available on www.melapay.com. The app will be launched soon to be downloaded from Google Play store for Android and the App Store for iOS.

How will I know I have entered the correct UID?


Once you input the UID, the system will display personal details, i.e. Full name and Phone number of the Payee, before you proceed to make payments.

Can I get a receipt for the payment I made?


Yes, the beneficiary can collect receipts for paid services in one of the Lehulu stations in Ethiopia.
